World wide access to best practices in ship management
Superintendent’s Manual is our newest product offering containing the world´s most comprehensive web based collection of best practices relevant to anyone interested in ship newbuilding, management and operations. The Superintendent’s Manual is not a newspaper, but rather an information hub whereas all subscribers are invited to contribute to content maintenance and upgrade – looking for up to date “best practices”, DNV Maritime Partner is your preferred choice.
The shipping industry has a lack of experienced ship superintendents/ship managers. This unique service helps to train new personnel more efficiently and is also a useful knowledge hub that more experienced staff can use to update and verify their knowledge and practices.
Included in the subscription package you will find relevant articles, links, an overview of training courses and a discussion forum. Superintendent’s Manual can be further customised with private information or company specific policies and procedures. Our chief editors will be constantly seeking for new and more relevant information and ensure that our product should stay sharp at all times.

Knowledge is power. In our highly competitive industry, a Superintendent’s Manual subscription is an investment in your people - and an investment in the future of your fleet.
To date, we have received a lot of good feedback, such as the following examples:
“In JO Tankers we have been familiar with "Super-Man" since the first paper version was issued and until today with the new updated electronic version. In SM is collected a huge amount of knowledge and experience which give an fantastic technical support to Superintendents and others working in the maritime industry. In particular this is a very valuable tool for new employees with les experience, but also for employees with years of experience”.
Johnny Hoddevik, Technical Manager, JO TANKERS AS
”I have logged on today and at first glance I see you have produced a fantastic tool for maritime professionals regardless of their experience....Congratulations!”

Background
Superintendent's Manual was presented as a project idea to the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (NSA) by the consulting company Norwegian Maritime Advisers AS (NMA) in 1995. The project idea was further developed by NMA to form a detailed project plan, which was subsequently approved by NSA and participating members of the Norwegian shipping industry, mid 1996. The initial version of Superintendent’s Manual was presented to Norwegian shipping entities in 2003 and further updated by NMA during the period 2003-2006. This was issued as hard copies in special binders for the Norwegian market and sold to in excess of 170 Norwegian shipping/maritime companies.
In 2007 DNV took over the project and developed it to a web-based living tool, which is continuously updated and extended.
